Chemistry Revision: Balancing Equations, Moles and Practical Questions

Practical guidance for parents and students from Jinnah Tutors Academy.

Chemistry revision works best when facts, calculations and practical reasoning are studied together. A learner who memorises definitions but cannot balance an equation will struggle with mole calculations; a learner who can calculate may still need help explaining an experiment.

Secure the reaction first

Write correct symbols and formulae before balancing. Count atoms on both sides and change coefficients rather than subscripts. Then connect the balanced equation to particles and mole ratios. This sequence prevents students from treating stoichiometry as an isolated arithmetic trick.

Practise calculations with units

Show each conversion: mass to moles, moles to ratio, then ratio to the requested quantity. Write units at each stage and check whether the answer is reasonable. If a calculation goes wrong, locate the step rather than simply copying the model answer. A small set of carefully reviewed problems teaches more than many unchecked answers.

Explain practical choices

For experiments, ask why a particular apparatus, control or measurement is used. Predict the observation and state what it means. Revise safety and sources of error where the syllabus requires them. The goal is to explain an unfamiliar setup using principles already learned, not memorise one diagram.
